Nevaeh Cortez-Lucious, Incarnate Word basketball

A 6-foot-3 junior forward, Cortez-Lucious helped the Red Knights roll to a pair of postseason victories in pursuit of their eighth consecutive state championship. In an 84-68 victory against Lutheran St. Charles in the Class 6 District 3 title game, Cortez-Lucious scored nine points and gathered six rebounds. Four days later during an 82-36 win over Troy Buchanan in the quarterfinal round, she scored 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting from the field to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. For the season, her first with the program, Cortez-Lucious is averaging 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. The Red Knights (27-2) face Girls Independent Schools League rival Cor Jesu at 2 p.m. Wednesday in a Class 6 semifinal at Mizzou Arena.
