Student Clubs & Organizations

Over 90% of Incarnate Word Academy's student body is involved in at least one extracurricular activity.

IWA’s clubs and organizations provide our students with outlets to express their individuality and share their interests with others. Each club meets often and participates in group discussions, field trips, and special events. At the beginning of each year, students can sign-up for clubs during the Club Expo. During the Club Expo, each club is represented by current club members and students are able to learn more about each organization.

The following student-led clubs and organizations are available at Incarnate Word Academy: (expand the selection for more information)

Mission Statement: The mission of Anime club is to explore Japanese culture through Japanese cartoons and foods. We aim to create a relaxing environment for anyone interested in anime whether you have seen a lot, or have not seen any.

Mission Statement: Our club serves as a safe space where students can engage meaningfully and frankly on current issues or topics related to equity and inclusion (EI). We promote mutual respect and understanding about E&I topics relative to the greater Red Knight student community and our greater society. The goal of Building Bridges is to create an expressive multicultural/multi-identity student forum to facilitate critical conversations and collaborate; enhancing levels of human understanding through deep dives at societal issues that separate us. All students are encouraged and welcome to participate.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Harry Potter Club is to promote the positive themes reflected throughout the Harry Potter series, including the importance of friendship, the belief in good prevailing over evil, and the idea that love can conquer all. While our meetings are dedicated primarily to the wizarding world of Harry Potter, we welcome fans of all fictional universes.

Club Activities:

  • Once-per-cycle meetings.

Mission Statement: The Marvel club is a space for everyone to have fun, regardless of background or other interests. Like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we are stronger when we are interconnected and show up for one another. Together, we can unify over our shared interest of the MCU and build relationships with other grade levels, using the Marvel heroes as examples of fortitude, prudence, temperance, and justice.

Mission Statement: Our members' goal is to preserve, implement, and promote the original mission of the school: to follow the example of Jesus, the Incarnate Word, by promoting human dignity; and by empowering themselves and others to make a positive impact on our world. This group exists, led by its members, called "Sparks," to be positive role models for the IWA Community and to encourage others to embrace and share the mission.

Club Activities:

  • A main responsibility is for this Committee to publicly recognize students, faculty, or staff members who demonstrate the mission of Jesus as practiced at IWA. This is done through the Mission Model program, initiated in 2008, motivating students and adults to live the Mission or Core Beliefs of IWA. Members observe students and adults and submit nomination forms, available to everyone at IWA, to the Committee. These are discussed at our monthly meetings, the first F day of each month, mods 3 + 4, and are screened by our Administration. If approved, these five people are recognized at our monthly liturgy or assembly. Their pictures are posted in the cafeteria; letters are sent to the Mission Models' parents, grandparents, pastors or ministers, and former grade school principals.
  • Near the anniversary of the founding of IWA, Sept. 6, two Sparks represent Bishop Claude Dubuis, our Sisters' founder, and Mother Peter Nolasco Keenan, CCVI, IWA's first Principal, by wearing the traditional clothing and reading a brief history at our Sept. Mass.
  • Every year we hold a Tootsie Roll Drive, to assist the Knights of Columbus in their programs to help persons who have developmental disabilities. We sponsor a blanket drive to help Energy Care provide warmth for their clients. Several times a year we work with Energy Care to weatherize the homes of persons in need. We volunteer at St. Louis Area Foodbank a few Saturdays a year. We participate in the World Food Day High School Rally, having a dress down day to raise funds and then to help package the food for local & global communities. Our Committee does various activities at IWA's annual Mission Carnival held during Mission Week to benefit a specific group of people each year. We help plan ways to celebrate Incarnate Word feast day in March.

Mission Statement: The mission of the Incarnate Word Academy chapter of NHS is to recognize and foster enthusiasm for scholarship, to promote the development of strong character, to encourage positive leadership, and to cultivate responsible citizenship through service to school and community.
